6. Shared Ownership
SACHA aims to offer affordable homes for “sale” across London and the South-East, giving eligible people the chance to get on the property ladder. We are currently consulting on a number of shared ownership schemes and once complete, eligible people and families will be assessed and will be able to apply for one of our schemes.
More About Shared Ownership
Shared ownership is simply an alternative to renting and full ownership. With shared ownership a ‘share’ of the home is bought and rent is paid on the remainder.
Anyone with a regular income who can secure a mortgage to buy a share but cannot afford full ownership will be eligible. However, priority is normally given to local authority and RSL tenants or to people on the local authority’s housing register.
More recently, the Government’s new equity loans are available through its shared equity scheme ‘Open Market HomeBuy’ (OMHB). The loans allow buyers to shop around for the best mortgage deals and are simpler to arrange than previous OMHB products.
